Overview

Our Signature Shiraz produced from vines planted circa 1880. These twisted and gnarly vines are believed to be the oldest surviving Shiraz in McLaren Vale. The ancient 5 acre vineyard is not only withstanding the test of time, it still flourishes today. The fruit has gained flavour and complexity from over 130 years of what has become a vast, elaborate root system.
Smoky autumnal scents, barbecue, hedgerow fruits and scented herbs. Aromas of fresh bread yeast, whetstone, fruit compote, plum jam, baking stones and sweet black earth. In the mouth this wine is sensationally packed with dark fruit, scented with spice and gripped with fine tannins. Powerfully long and lingering, and will evolve majestically for many years.

Vinification

The grapes were handpicked, crushed and open fermented for 12 days. The wine was then matured in new and seasoned French oak barrels for 24 months to allow characters to integrate and soften

Hand-picked, crushed and open-fermented for 12 days, then matured in new and used French oak for 2 years. A richly endowed wine, with an array of black (predominantly) and red fruits, an air brush of McLaren Vale chocolate joined at the hip with oak. Everything is on song until the last moment when there is a slight phenolic catch on the flow.

    93+ / 100 Wine Review - WineFront - Campbell Mattinson May 2015

Grown on vines planted circa 1880. Hand picked, crushed and open fermented for 12 days. Matured in new and seasoned French oak for 24 months.

Dense but vibrant. A soak of red cherry, plum, blackberry and tar, with lifted notes of orange peel and clovey spice. Teeters on the exotic. Tannin is stern and earthen yet still manages to go with the juicy flow of the wine. You’d almost describe this as “dense but light”. Its flavour profile is a modern rendition of a classic McLaren Vale Burgundy style.
