Conte Estate Wines is a family owned & run boutique vineyard & winery based in the heart of South Australia’s
McLaren Vale region – universally recognised as one of Australia’s premier wine producing districts.
With the assistance of local professional historian Mr. Rob Linn, the vineyard was confirmed to be planted circa 1880. In 1887 Thomas Hardy purchased the established vineyard from the Latta's family. The archival research within the South Australian Register of 1892 revealed information on the original 120 acre property, named Glen Hardy after its purchase. Since then it has changed hands numerous times, and later was divided into two seperate 60 acre properties. Other varieties of vines on the original 1880's plantings included Grenache and Currants. Today, only the 6 acre plot of Shiraz still remains.
